Tom Rodriguez and Betong Sumaya team up for Pinoy Fiesta and Trade Show sa Toronto
Kapuso leading man Tom Rodriguez and amazing comedian Betong Sumaya are teaming up for a thrilling Pinoy Fiesta and Trade Show sa Toronto in Canada this June 18. Taking place at Hall A of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre’s North Building, the whole-day affair will be packed with lots of entertainment and will feature food vendors offering a variety of Filipino delicacies. The Pinoy Fiesta and Trade Show sa Toronto is organized by the Philippine Canadian Charitable Foundation (PCCF). Founded in 2008, PCCF is an advocate for charity and community, and has been at the helm of the event, which pays homage to the Philippines’ vibrant multi-faceted history and culture, since 2011. GMA’s three international channels, GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News TV International are the exclusive media sponsors for the event. Tom and Betong will share the stage with other talented artists based in Canada. There will also be live music courtesy of the Philippine Heritage Band. Tom, whose family relocated to the United States when he was younger, relates with his fellow Filipinos who yearn for a reminder of their home country. “Hopefully, I could bring a little piece of home to them. Siyempre alam ko ung pakiramdam na isa kang Pinoy na naninirahan sa ibang bansa, and iba talaga ‘yung nadudulot na saya kapag may nakikita kang parte ng bansa mo na nadadala doon, so it’s a big thing. I hope I can share that type of joy to our Kapuso abroad,” says the Filipino-American actor. Betong, on the other hand, is excited to bring a different kind of entertainment to the Kapuso community abroad through his pairing with Tom. “Mai-expect nila is a one-of-a-kind show, adrenaline-pumping, some kind of a mind-boggling experience. Pinagsamang Tom and Betong, eh! Actually, magkaiba kami ng ihahandog pero pag pinagsama, magandang combination ‘to. ‘Yung mga kanta, sayaw, comedy… Siyempre si Tom na ‘yung bahala sa kilig-kilig. Sobra kaming excited at happy na makita ‘yung mga Kapuso natin sa Toronto,” he says. Among the highlights attendees can look forward to are the Santacruzan; the coronations for the 2016 Miss Philippines Canada, Little Miss Philippines Canada, Mrs. Philippines Canada, Miss Teen Philippines Canada, and Mr. Philippines Canada; a Kids Zone, and a ping pong and sungka tournament. Admission to the event is free for children aged 10 and under, and seniors aged 65 and above. Newly-landed immigrants who have been residing in Canada for 2 years or less can also gain access for free if they present a valid government ID upon entrance. For others who are interested in joining the festivities, tickets for all-day admission costs $15. Gates will open at 9 am and close at 11 pm.
